In 1980, Norm and Frank LoPreste formed a partnership to build the

The SHOGUN is now permanently based out of Fisherman's Landing in San Diego, offering a full year round schedule of Long Range trips including fly down - fly back trips from Cabo San Lucas to the Revillagigedo Islands. With this in mind, we have completed a major remodel to the staterooms, making rooms with much bigger beds and more personal storage area. In addition to the remodeling of rooms, a new air-conditioning system and a remodel of all bathrooms completes our renovation. |
Revillagigedo Islands Fly-down / Fly-back trips The Shogun has scheduled several trips to the Revillagigedo Islands departing from Cabo San Lucas. Unlike most fly-down trips, you will be able to put all yourgear aboard the Shogun 3 days before departing San Diego, and then fly down and meet the boat in Cabo. Upon your return to Cabo, you can leave all of your gear and fish aboard the Shogun then meet the boat 3 days later in San Diego. This eliminates the huge problem of flying all of your gear to Cabo and worrying about it getting through customs. When the boat arrives at Fisherman's Landing, you may trade your fish for canned albacore, have them filleted and packaged, smoked or trade for some tuna jerky. Another advantage of our fly-down / fly-back trips, when you depart from Cabo Sa Lucas, we start with a full load of sardines, not a half load of bait. Freezer Special February and March Our Freezer Specials will fish Mexican waters from San Martin Island, north to Cape Colonett and areas further north. These are excellent trips to fill your freezer with quality fillets. We fish 240' to 350' of water for bottom fish and Red Rock Cod. Occasionally, we also fish for Yellowtail, so bring a jig stick and a light rod for fishing plastic in shallow waters. |
Our two Spring 8-day trips in late May and June fish the Alijos Rocks and Uncle Sam Bank areas. This is an excellent time for big Yellowtail and good Yellowfin Tuna fishing at the Rocks. The Yo's Tackle 8-day trip that departed on June 14, 1997, had absolutely outstanding fishing, filling their holds to the brim. They returned to the dock with 390 Yellowfin Tuna, 38 Tellowtail, 11 Dorado and 51 Wahoo. The Yellowfin Tuna were in the 60# to 90# bracket, with first place going to Chai Kaortakul with a 92.0#, Yellowfin Tuna. Second place was a 91.6#, and third place was a 91.0#. What a great trip! |
The Summer trips are designed to fish the areas of Guadalupe and Benitos Islands and offshore for Yellowfin Tuna, Bluefin Tuna, Albacore, Dorado and Yellowtail. The 1997 season was absolutely outstanding. The five day trip that returned on June 11th, checked in with 111 Albacore, 166 Yellowfin tuna in the 60# to 80# bracket, 40 Bluefin Tuna, 2 Dorado, 38 Yellowtail and 1 Big Eye Tuna. A three day trip returning on July 22nd had, 666 Albacore, 14 Bluefin Tuna, 11 Yellowfin Tuna and 2 Big Eye Tuna. The 5 day Seeker trip, skippered by John Grabowski, returned with 880 Albacore, 2 Bluefin Tuna, 11 Big Eye Tuna, 66 Yellowfin Tuna, 24 Yellowtail and 5 Mahi-Mahi. |
Our 10 day trips are our most popular trips. On these trips you have the opportunity to catch every species of fish that swims in Baja; Yellowfin Tuna, Yellowtail, Bluefin Tuna, Dorado, Wahoo, Pargo, Grouper and Marlin. We will be fishing as far out as Alijos Rocks, and as far down as 120 miles above Cabo San Lucas. Please note the 12 day trip departing October 21, will fish all of the above mentioned areas plus work the coast of Baja for some outstanding Grouper fishing. Christmas Special Fishing Alijos Rocks and on down to Potato Bank, fishing for Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Marlin and Dorado. This trip is an outstanding value. Yo's Tackle Charter - (310) 532-1376 These open trips will feature the raffling of a certificate for a custom rod donated by Martin Yoshida. In addition, each passenger will receice a Yo's Tacle T-Shirt. |
The proper handling and refrigeration of your catch is of the utmost importance to the Shogun crew. You can be sure that your fish will reach the dock in excellent condition and that you will be taking home the highest quality product available. Fisherman's Canning will meet the boat to assist you in canning all or a portion of your catch. You can exchange Albacore or Yellowfin Tuna for canned Albacore of the highest quality with a Fisherman's Canning label. We also recommend the filleting and smoking service available. For a nominal fee, your catch will be processed to your specifications and freezer wrapped, to be picked up at a later date. It is also possible to have your order shipped to any major airport in the United states. Many of our passengers donate some of their catch to the Rotary Club of San Diego. The fish is then distributed to worthy charities in Baja California. This can be arranged through Fisherman's Canning. You may then submit a receipt for a tax deduction. Gear and Tackle Suggestions We carry all terminal tackle on board at tackle store prices. Because tackle requirements differ, depending on your choice and length of trip, we suggest that you request a tackle list when you make yoru reservations. Rental Tackle Depending on the length of your trip, various rental packages are available at Fisherman's Landing. You can be assured of excellent and well-maintained equipment. For specific costs, please request a tackle rental list. Fish & Game Regulations Both Mexican Fish & Game and California Fish & Game prohibit the sale of sport caught fish. Any passengers doing so will be prosecuted by California Fish & Game. Please note that we consider this a very serious issue as every offense jeopardizes our excellent relations with the Department de Pesca in Mexico City. |
